Blog in Your Blog
I guess if one is going to have a blog, one should blog in their blog. It doesn't really foster any type of reader loyalty to start a blog and than let your blog lay around and be lazy.
So I decided to make an entry in my blog, even though I don't have any clay content. I have however, been doing something new.
I've have entered two writing contests. One for a humor website where I wrote about the Zombie Sauce. The night I tried to make sour cream turkey patties and ended up with horror movie special effects goo in my bowl.
The other I haven't sent it in yet but it's for Real Simple Magazine. I know my entry has a snowball's chance in a frying pan but the contest was to write about regrets, a subject that I am expert. So it seemed a no-brainer to write something for it.
I wasn't going to say anything about either of the contests til I knew the outcome of one or the other but I'm trying to open up a little bit. Be riskier in my writing. I'm not sure telling people I've been scribbling some crazy scratchings to magazines on my dormant blog is any kind of risk but I've got to start somewhere.
In the past I wouldn't told anyone about any of it until I knew there was some kind of success. If I "lost" I wouldn't have even mentioned it to anyone. But I began to think about the people I admire most and they are people who are brave enough to be vulnerable. Brave enough to take the risk even if it means failure, or embarrasment.
So, I've done those things. Big woo I know. But weirdly it feels big woo to me. Plus I really needed to post SOMETHING on this blog.
Update: I submitted three articles to the humor site and got honorable mentions on them. That was fun. I'm over it now.
